It’s been awhile since we’ve posted around here, but I wanted to share this neat project—Knit a River.
WaterAid has been actively working for clean water and sanitation for everyone around the world for the last 25 years. I Knit in London came up with the bright idea of a knitted river to add to WaterAid’s campaigns, and once completed, the river will be joining them at all their future events.
So, what can we do? Knit a blue square or two or 50, of course! All they need are 15cm x 15cm squares in blue (what a chance to practice gauge, right?) Send them off to London with your name and email / snail mail address to:

Deadline is sometime in Early 2007, so get knitting—we’ve got 6 months at least! Pass the gift of pure clean water to those who need it all while knitting beautiful blue yarn! What could be sweeter?

Sorry folks. I’ve been so inundated with work and family (though I did finish a knitting project for m’daughter) I’ve neglected to get this second project going. I’ve not forgotten!!
I will email everyone soon (and post here) and get this going for the next project.

Here is what I have been working on lately. My SIL is due with her first baby in March and I made her a couple sweaters, and blanket sets. Here’s the latest. :-)

I am getting s p a m m e d through this entry. So I turned off the comments.

I posted some ideas before, but obviously I did something wrong and it went into the abyss.
I suggested that maybe we could do some squares for children’s blanket (like security blanket size). I think if we decide on a size and how many squares we need for each. we could maybe just pick a brand of yarn (like Peace Fleece) and a color family for each (like earth tones or pastels) and they would still be individual, but sewn randomly together would still make a nice corredinated blanket.
Just and idea. I also said that I am not good at sewinf knits at this point. I need a lot more practice, so I couldn’t do that part, we woudln’t want anything falling apart. But I do enjoy weaving in the ends (don’t call me weird, LOL!) So I’d be happy to volunteer for that part.

Well, I think that first project went very well!! We donated at least 6 hats and 2 mittens (I think Annie was able to get the mittens off in time). We have a couple hats that didn’t make it in time, but we’ve got another project coming up that you can save them for that (or donate them locally, up to you!). I know Michelle was offline for a bit, and our new member Janet (we’ll introduce her soon) has completed a hat, but wasn’t able to start earlier enough for this project.
So suggestions for the next project? I had suggested we do an Afghan this time, each of us do several squares and send them to someone to weave/stitch together (not me, I’d do a bad job of it) and then donate to the same charity (Afghans for Afghans). I think a few squares each would be relatively simple and quick. It would mean we need to find a pattern that would work and coordinate a bit on the ‘who does what’, but the next deadline is not till late April, so I think we could do it.
OR… I’m not wedded to that for our next project. We could do something else for one of the charities to the right, or another charity you have in mind.
Your ideas and thoughts? (i’ll send this out as email too to make sure everyone gets it)
btw, if you know anyone who might be interested in joing up with us (or you are reading this and want to), please contact either me or Annie!
So, next?.....
