Still alive

Sorry folks. I’ve been so inundated with work and family (though I did finish a knitting project for m’daughter) I’ve neglected to get this second project going. I’ve not forgotten!!

I will email everyone soon (and post here) and get this going for the next project.

Next Project...

Well, I think that first project went very well!! We donated at least 6 hats and 2 mittens (I think Annie was able to get the mittens off in time). We have a couple hats that didn’t make it in time, but we’ve got another project coming up that you can save them for that (or donate them locally, up to you!). I know Michelle was offline for a bit, and our new member Janet (we’ll introduce her soon) has completed a hat, but wasn’t able to start earlier enough for this project.

So suggestions for the next project? I had suggested we do an Afghan this time, each of us do several squares and send them to someone to weave/stitch together (not me, I’d do a bad job of it) and then donate to the same charity (Afghans for Afghans). I think a few squares each would be relatively simple and quick. It would mean we need to find a pattern that would work and coordinate a bit on the ‘who does what’, but the next deadline is not till late April, so I think we could do it.

OR… I’m not wedded to that for our next project. We could do something else for one of the charities to the right, or another charity you have in mind.

Your ideas and thoughts? (i’ll send this out as email too to make sure everyone gets it)

btw, if you know anyone who might be interested in joing up with us (or you are reading this and want to), please contact either me or Annie!

So, next?.....

Donated!

I had to leave town for a conference, so I haven’t been able to write (my laptop is on the fritz.. just found a computer), but I took (well, my partner did for me) 6 hats (from me, Kathy, Ann and Amy) to Afghans for Afghans yesterday! and I know Annie donated some things too.

Our first project complete!! I will write more on Sunday or Monday about this first project, about a new member or two and we can start on our next project.

Thank you everyone!!!

Caps!

Amy has got her cap in, pictured here to the right. The photo doesn’t do it justice, its a two-tone beige and light green. Really nice.

The one on the left is the first one I finished for the project. I’m starting on a second, the first only took about 4 hours of knitting.. so I think I can get another done. I’m not sure I’ll have the blanket done.

Just for fun… I did a second cap like the one above only with a large hole in the top so my daughter’s hair could poke through. Here she is modeling it…

Trey's Introduction

Greetings!

I’ll start off the introductions to the knitters of this group.

Originally from Virginia, I now live with my partner of 9 years and our almost 3 year-old daughter (oh, and one African Grey parrot named Katie) in San Francisco, California. My interests (aside from knitting and charities of course :), include gardening, biology, cooking, history and theology. I am part-owner of a small biotech consulting and education firm and am lucky enough that my office is in the basement of my home :).

I only started knitting about 4 months ago on advice of my doctor in an off-handed remark. He suggested I pick up a relaxing hobby or habit to help lower my bloodpressure…. and said knitting or yoga as two possible examples. I figured knitting was more productive :). I’m addicted. I think of my next projects all the time and usually 3 ahead.. dream of the perfect yarn and am itching to build a needle collection. It’s a sickness :)... but a relaxing and productive one :).

I thought of forming this group after reading about how someone’s children wanted to donate something they ‘did’ as opposed to money. Though money is needed in so many places (and easier than donated goods in many cases), there is something meaningful to both the creator and recipient when something is gifted directly from the gifters handiwork. So, I looked for some charities that would take knit goods, asked my online friends from my blog and a couple parenting bbs if they’d like to join in and create some projects.. and then Annie offered the web domain and site and put it together and

viola.. PeaceKnits!

So, there is my intro. You can see more at Daddy, Papa & Me
